With the release of Apple’s latest iPhone 4, the term “Retina Display” has been going around for quite a while now. This term, in the scientific world, refers to ‘a screen which either meets or exceeds the maximum amount of detail viewable with the human eye’. While the ideal condition is kind of hard to meet in the real world, Apple’s iPhone 4 has made a darn good effort in achieving ideality. Boasting a screen that measures 3.5’’ with a 960×640 resolution, it has a pixel density rated at 326ppi (78 microns wide for all you pixel geeks out there); something to die for!
This ultimately means that while older apps will end up looking better than they did before, the newer ones would appear gigantically great. And where images would become crispier, text would become more legible than it was in the previous iPhone device.
Another tantalizing reason to purchase this iDevice would be the IPS technology (in-plane switching) that has been used with LED backlight to further enhance the entire viewing experience. This technology would facilitate a wider viewing angle for the screen, meaning that while other devices don’t offer much of a view from the side, you’d still be able to make out the content on iPhone 4’s screen.
And if that wasn’t all, Apple took the final rabbit out of their hat by coming up with an optical glass screen with a special oil-resistant coating that not only provides greater scratch resistance but has been fixed right on the screen leaving no gap between the two. Gone were the days when the screen seemed like a distant entity. Your new iPhone 4’s screen is offering you clarity you’ve never experienced before as the pixels and hence the entire picture is directly under the optical glass covering.
So, what are your thoughts on all this?

I am pretty much concerned that the new resolution would be worthless to you and me. I mean if the screen exceeds retina display, that means that all those colors and details would be lost on us. What’s the use of having too many details that are not viewable??? Nevertheless, I’ve seen the iPhone 4 on Web sites and I think that it’s a great smartphone, and way better than the 3G S!
What a great resource!
