Apple revealed its new advertising forum named as iAd.
iAd is built into the upcoming versions 4.0 of the iPhone and iPad. Steve Jobs affirmed, during a recent event at Apple headquarters in Cupertino, CA, that the company wants to change the distribution of advertising. He wants the iPhone applications and iPad applications to conduct user’s ad experiences instead of search engines. He also stated that the company is looking “to change the quality of advertising as well.”
Job’s sees flaws in standard online and TV advertising. By controlling advertising, Apple can keep users from leaving Apple applications.
Revenues will be divided with developers who will earn 60% of iAd revenue; 10% less than their 70% share of iPhone revenue. However, developers will not have to do any additional work to earn this revenue. Apple will deliver and host the iAds.
The iAds videos and interactions will be delivered using the HTML5 web format rather than Adobe Flash Technology.
